Albert Lea is a beautiful destination. The population of our city is 18,016. However, Albert Lea is surrounded by many smaller towns, that form Freeborn county, with a population of 29,883. Albert Lea is located in Southern Minnesota on I-90 and I-35.
We are 20 miles from Austin, 63 miles from Rochester, 77 miles from Minneapolis, 59 miles from Mankato, and 17 miles from Northwood, Iowa.
Fountain Lake is in the center of the city and is a beautiful attraction. It offers a gorgeous view during your five mile walk or run around the lake. Albert Lea Lake and White Lake also surround Albert Lea making it an attractive town as well as offering fishing in the summer and winter months. We have a nice biking and hiking trail in town that is called the Blazing Star Trail and it goes from Albert Lea all the way to the Hayward City Park. Also with the Myre Big Island State Park Trail in town, these beautiful outdoor areas make getting out and being active easy and a lot of fun.
Our community has many natural and historic areas that have been developed into over 300 acres of parks and recreational areas. With 41 parks throughout Albert Lea they offer many picnic areas, play fields, playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, fishing areas, softball and baseball diamonds and an ice arena during the winter months. Albert Lea has a large city pool and can be enjoyed by the public as well as a new splash pad on north Broadway across from Fountain Lake and our beautiful city gazebo.
A popular attraction in Albert Lea is climbing aboard the Pelican Breeze. The Pelican Breeze is a 60-foot pontoon tour and dinner boat. It has seating for 62 and you can enjoy the historically-narrated tours during your special event or private outing.
